Colorfast

Colorfast is an original one act musical, with a projected running time of one hour, for children and adults that centers on twelve year old Abby, whose parents are on the verge of separating.

The tension at home is affecting her sense of self, her grades are suffering and so is her attitude at home, where her parents expect her to take more responsibility around the house. All of her problems intensify when her mother insists that she do the laundry before she can go out with friends.

When Abby jokingly summons the genie of the laundry for help, Dina Clean (a giant puppet made of Abby’s laundry lint and memories) appears. Dina and singing dirty laundry puppets, provide Abby with expert advice, which she ignores in favor of a quick solution. The resulting disaster, a load of all pink laundry, prompts a visit to Dina’s home, Lintville. Journeying through the dryer, Abby encounters a surrealistic world of puppets and laundry products who help her sort out her troubles at home, as well as her laundering woes.

Colorfast will be presented by The Pittsburgh International Children's Festival in October 2004 at the Byham Theatre in Downtown Pittsburgh as well as at a number of community venues.
